Writing
We are passionate about equipping our pupils to become confident, accurate and creative writers at Ashperton Primary Academy. From the crucial foundational elements of their marking making journey in EYFS through to the sophisticated extended compositions in year 6, children are skilfully taught the progression of skills they need to become competent writers with the ability to write effectively for a wide range of different purposes.
Our writing curriculum recognises and teaches the wide variety of skills children require to become successful writers and includes,
- our handwriting lessons (using resources from the Penpals scheme)
- our spelling lessons (using resources from the Spelling with Grammarsaurus scheme)
- our writing lessons (using Grammarsaurus Writing Units – which include vocabulary development, compositional skills as well as punctuation and grammar)
- vocabulary development and applied writing opportunities in subjects across the curriculum
Children learn to write a range of fiction and non-fiction for varying audiences. Staff strive to expand children’s vocabulary, use discussion and speaking activities to enhance writing and use high-quality texts and books to inspire children to become capable and confident writers.
