EASTER HOMEWORK 2019
Dear Parents/carers,
Over Easter your child has been given an Easter pack of work to complete. It consists of a 10/15 minutes activity for most days. Some activities are arithmetic, some are reasoning, others are SPAG related questions and lastly there are some reading activities. I have advised the children that this should not all be done on one day and should be completed a little at a time to keep their brains ticking over. Of course some days they might want a whole day off and so may decide that 20 minutes completing activities will be spent the following day.
For reading, the children have one paper to complete (The Circus is in Town!) It is entirely up to them how they complete it whether they want to do it on 4 separate occasions or sit down for an hour and get it all done in one go.
There are 5 arithmetic papers each of which take approximately 15 minutes. One every few days would be a good approach to these as it will keep the skills fresh in their head. There is also a 5 a day reasoning paper – completing 5 of these questions every couple of days is the suggested approach.
Finally there is one SPAG paper.
In your big brown envelope you will also find a set of answers. Please use these to help mark your children’s work and guide them in areas they are struggling with. The answers to the arithmetic papers can be found in the back of the booklet.
Your child has been given the correct equipment to complete the maths activities (i.e. ruler, protractor) Please could these be returned at the end of the holiday
I know some of you have exciting holidays booked this Easter and were hoping for a complete rest however, I cannot stress how important it is that the children they stay on top of what they have learnt – 2 weeks is a long time to a 10/11-year-old! I have made a solemn promise that after SATs the ‘homework’ word won’t even be mentioned!
Thank you so much for your support. The children have made me so proud in the run up to these tests and I know they will want to show you how amazing they are and how far they have come this year.
